NEW JERSEY TOWN DECIDES TO KILL ALL GEESE WITH GAS OVER TOO MUCH GOOSE POO
Any and everyone who goes outside anywhere near where geese tend to be know all about goose poo. That means stepping in it, around it, and sloshing thru it as it morphs into slush in the rain. It can be a major, even disgusting pain. I’ve had various success and failures navigating it myself on golf courses, public parks, even in parking lots. And walking with a young child makes this a losing proposition. Poopasition? Regardless, it’s an annoying reality. But one small New Jersey town is pulling out all the stops to end their annoying reality, with plans to gas the geese to death.

NOT EVERYONE IS HAPPY OVER PLAN TO MASS KILL ALL THE TOWN’S GEESE
No, seriously! The small town is Peapack-Gladstone, which has about 2,500 residents and sits roughly 90 minutes buy car to Manhattan. But as you might imagine, not everyone is on board with the mass gas killing of 60 geese because goose poo. So far, locals have put together over 6,000 signatures (yes, way more signatures than people in the town proper) on a petition to stop the too much poo goose mass killing. The issue (and yes, that’s a pun) is over all the goose poo these large cranky birds leave all over Liberty Park, a green space in the town center that has a 1-acre pond in the middle.

PLAN IS TO GAS ALL THE GEESE WHEN THEY’RE MOLTING, AND UNABLE TO FLY
The town, for whatever reason, has made the decision to kill all the geese with a portable gas chamber. The plan is to do the deed in the next few weeks when the geese are molting. And why then? Because a goose can’t fly when it’s molting. So the town has decided to make sure they can kill each and every goose on-site. So sure, goose poo is a bit of a hazard, can be disgusting and is totally annoying to navigate around or thru. But no one seems to know why the town isn’t pursuing alternative methods, like say, deterrence? It sure seems to have worked getting dogs to chase them away in Brooklyn.
