The Best Mom Ever and her Six-Year-Old Parking Spot Guard

SIX-YEAR-OLD PARKING SPOT GUARD

The best mom award surely goes to a Florida woman who decided to leave her little six-year-old to guard a parking space while she shopped at a store nearby.  Police later charged her with child neglect.  So, she left her baby girl to stand in a parking spot of their apartment building around 10 pm at night.  Shouldn’t this girl be in bed?  Apparently, the little girl told the police this happens all the time. Her mom seems to be training her to be a future parking spot guard.

BEST MOM DOES THIS ALL THE TIME

Elda Solis, 47 years old apparently does this all the time. She leaves her six-year-old alone to guard their parking spot during the late evenings. So she can go shopping.  So, her child stands there for a couple of hours as a parking spot guard, so mommy can get her shopping done and they have a parking spot near the door of their apartment.  This garners her the best mom award for the week.

NO CHILD LEFT ALONE AT HOME UNDER TWELVE

First off, if this keeps happening why aren’t people reporting it to authorities?  Why aren’t people noticing this little girl standing for hours in a parking spot?  She should be in her home or supervised by an adult.  Some school laws state that a six-year-old and older child can travel to school alone without supervision.  However, the National SAFEKIDS Campaign recommends that no child under the age of 12 be left at home alone.  We can safely say that that goes for a future parking spot guard. And common-sense states that no child should be left to guard a parking spot in the middle of the night or day unsupervised.  So if you want to win the best mom award, use common sense.

MANY BEST MOM AWARDS FOR OTHER STATES

Lynn Yaney, a spokesperson for the National SAFEKIDS Campaign says that as, “A general rule of thumb is that kids under age seven aren’t capable of thinking logically and putting cause and effect together.”  However, the Florida Department of Children & Families has not implemented a minimum age of home alone with child age restriction.  Many states have not implemented a restriction.  Hopefully there won’t be any more six-year-old parking spot guards in other states. We need better mom awards.
