REPUBS: RENAME DULLES AIRPORT AFTER TRUMP; DEMS: NO, RENAME MIAMI PRISON AFTER TRUMP
I’m not a fan of gotcha politics. But occasionally, something comes up in the genre that I find appealing and not a total waste of time (and taxpayer money). And this happens to the kind of thing that came up that I don’t mind at all. It is, after all, an election year and the stakes are somewhat high. With the Republican party still (unbelievably) radicalized out of historic recognition by candidate Donald Trump, they’re bootlicking efforts have the most recent inclusion of trying to rename the Washington Dulles International Airport to the “Donald J. Trump International Airport.” Um, yuck. So three Florida Dems’ reply is rather perfect, with a bill to instead rename the Miami Federal Prison the “Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution.”

DONALD J. TRUMP FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION WOULD BE BIBLICALLY PERFECT
Let me just say, Bravisse! Because what could be a more perfect response? That is, of course, if you can somehow manage to believe that every single Trump indictment isn’t part of some “deep state” conspiracy. Or just how many women have accused Trump of sexual harassment, if not outright assault. Or, well, if you have managed to (somehow) forget the literal thousands of insane, dangerous, inciteful things Trump has said. And to rename a federal prison local to Mar-a-Lago is even better. It’s almost like it would be the first building to ever appropriately have Trump’s name on it. And maybe as a resident, no less?

The three Dems who sponsored the bill are Reps. Gerry Connolly (VA), Jared Moskowitz (FL), and John Garamendi (CA). And Connolly had a choice soundbite to include, saying, “When our Republican colleagues introduced their bill to rename Dulles after Donald Trump, I said the more fitting option would be to rename a federal prison. I hope our Republican friends will join us in bestowing upon Donald J. Trump the only honor he truly deserves.” That there is what you call appropriate gotcha politics, with a Miami Prison offered up as a sacrificial ham.
