Cleveland Couple Renovate Basement Find Cache of Cash

CLEVELAND COUPLE THRILLED TO DISCOVER CACHE OF CASH WHEN THEY RENOVATE BASEMENT

So I’ve never had the opportunity to buy a house, fix it up and then maybe flip it down the line for more money.  But for one Cleveland couple, they stumbled onto money, literally, as they went to renovate their basement.  The house is from the 1940’s, so it had a lot of updates to get done.  But this couple was totally up for the live-in projects.  At first, they spend the first few years remodeling the main level of the home.  But then they decided to start work on the basement as well, which was untouched for decades.  Yet of all the things they expected to find, a cache of cash wasn’t on the list to renovate the basement.

The couple explained their find on Reddit, with the username Branik12.  They told their story of how they had begun redoing their 1940’s house.  But when they got to the basement, they found something curious when they took down old sheets of drywall.  So underneath, they discovered some writing on the wall behind.  That’s not too weird.  But they saw nothing like that upstairs.  And then they moved on and started opening up the ceiling above that section of wall.

MYSTERIOUS, LIGHT TIN SUITCASE HELD HIDDEN CACHE OF PERIOD CACHE

So what did they find?  A small, tin suitcase nestled between a water pipe on one side and a beam on the other.  That’s not the kind of thing people tend to find in their basement ceilings, eh?  The case felt really light.  But not quite empty.  So of course curiosity drove them to get it open and see what was inside.  The homeowner posted, “I took the box outside and gathered the wife. It has something inside, but not heavy like coins or gold bars. Might get lucky though. Could be old sports cards.”  Sports cards?  Oh, no.  Something much better.  Inside they found three wrapped stacks of cash.  Hence, a cache of cash.

So it’s not clear how much cash there was exactly.  But why?  Because the period paper was barely in circulation before someone stashed it away.  But it increased the notes’ value to a total of about $23,000.  So maybe take another look at those renovations you’ve been putting off for years?  Yeah, go renovate.
