STAR TREK: DISCOVERY STARS PLAY D&D TO GET THE CREATIVE JUICES GOING
So it took me quite a while to try watching the current and latest Star Trek series: Discovery. I had heard all about it online and had seen commercials for it, of course. But, to be fair, sometimes it takes a while for an old Trekkie to try the new tricks. But as an old Trekkie, I’m actually old enough to have played D&D way back in the day. And, yes, just like in the E.T. movie. But D&D is still around these days, I’m happy to hear. And, considering that Discovery is a pretty fine sci-fi show, I’m even happier to hear that several Star Trek stars actively play D&D because it’s so creative and allows for a ton of imaginative exploration.
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY CAST HAVING A TON OF FUN, EXPLORING NEW WORLDS, IDEAS, AND THEIR OWN ACTING
So what are they playing in D&D, exactly? Well, it’s new to me. But considering I don’t know what’s new for at least 20 years, that’s not surprising. They are, so far, roughly 5 sessions into the Dragon of Icespire Peak. And yes, that is what you would call an adventure module. This one comes with the D&D 5E Essentials Kit. And I have no idea what that is. But considering I enjoyed it’s great-great-grand daddy kit years ago, I bet it’s a lot of fun. So far, the Star Trek: Discovery stars all have 3rd level characters. So they’re figuring it out as a group still. But it sure sounds like they’re having a blast.
DISCOVERY STARS JUST MIGHT ROPE IN OTHER CAST MEMBERS, STREAM THEIR D&D ADVENTURES
So why are these Star Trek stars playing D&D? Well, it’s helping them all think and re-think storytelling, their own acting and most especially their thinking about the world in totally new ways. And, as you might imagine, those are all totally important things for actors in their creative process and performances. So what’s next in their games? Well, they just may stream or record some singular adventures for the rest of us to see. And, they just might bring in some of their other Star Trek: Discovery castmates to get in on the creative and exploration action.
