Stay Fit, Beat Father Time With Load Bearing Exercise

FATHER TIME WANTS YOU TO FALL DOWN AND NOT GET UP

You may think that weight training is not as important as cardio.  But experts say it’s as important if not more important.  If you haven’t begun to add load-bearing exercises to your routine, you really should.  First and second agers (basically your youth) is a time when bone resorption is well-balanced.  This means healthy bone growth and strength.  Your muscles tend to weaken too.  Weight bearing exercises help you work against Father Time.  So, grow wise and keep looking great, instead of old and saggy and weak.

DO LOAD BEARING ACTIVITIES STARTING IN YOUR 30’s

As you get older and into your 30’s, bone loss begins to accelerate.  That’s especially true for women.  Father Time just laughs, and waits.  But instead of waiting with him, lift some weights. And that’s why you need to do load-bearing activities.  Some women in particular don’t want to bulk up.  But it’s not about bulking up, it’s about keeping up with your bones.  Because bone loss in your body will happen faster than you can maintain it the older you get.  Especially if you tend to be sedentary. Taking care of your body in this way gives you a greater chance at staying healthy for longer.

HELP YOUR BONES AND MUSCLES

Your muscles have a similar story and totally benefit from load-bearing activities.  You need good muscle tone, otherwise your mobility begins to suffer.  That mean basics that we take for granted in our youth, like walking or lifting a bag of groceries. Father Time only helps with wisdom and experience. The rest of the time he laughs at us when we fall down.  So, keep your muscles supple.

LOAD-BEARING IS SO GOOD FOR YOU IT’S INSANE

Load-bearing activities also help to improve your insulin sensitivity!  According to Mark Peterson, an assistant professor of physical medicine at the University of Michigan, our muscles are “…very metabolically active, and it uses glucose, or blood sugar, for energy”.  These load bearing activities also help to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome.   Those are a fun bunch of conditions that raise your risk to for type 2 diabetes and heart disease.   You can also lower inflammation in your body, improve cognition, reduce anxiety and depression.  And load bearing activities also reduce perimenopausal symptoms in women.

BEAT FATHER TIME AT HIS SILLY LITTLE GAMES

It’s a win win situation.  Go out there and start lifting some weights!  And beat Father Time at his silly little game of you are weak let me see you fall down.  But in the end, Father Time always wins.  Make his ass wait.
