SNL’s Beavis and Butthead Sketch Took 5 Years to Arrive

HILARIOUS BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD SKETCH ON SNL TOOK 5 YEARS TO MAKE IT ON SHOW

So first off, I have to lament the fact that I must not have been hot or popular back in the days when Beavis and Butthead was on the air.  Because according to a line from SNL last Saturday, if you were hot that meant you didn’t waste your time with watching cartoons instead of hooking up with other hot people.  But I watched this amazing cartoon, and have no regrets whatsoever.  And after seeing the sketch featuring the loser dynamic duo, I’m waxing nostalgic something fierce.  But apparently this sketch almost died on the vine for 5 long years before finally cracking us all up!

SKETCH COULD NEVER QUITE MAKE IT TO DRESS REHEARSAL, WAS ALWAYS CUT FROM SHOW

The sketch was written by Mikey Day, who played Butthead at last, and Streeter Seidell 5 years ago before the pandemic.  That’s in italics to note how emotionally long ago that now feels.  And he’s been pitching the sketch constantly ever since.  That translates as it was “put up” at table reads and rehearsals over and over and over again.  But every single time it would end up being cut from the show, either on the day before (Friday) or even the day of (Saturday).  It literally never once made it to a dress rehearsal.  But at last, Beavis and Butthead on SNL finally happened.  And boy, was it a winner.

RYAN GOSLING AS BEAVIS JUST MAY BE SOMETHING WE NEED TO SEE A LOT MORE OF

Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell kept pitching the sketch to no avail.  Heidi Gardner (who breaks character hilariously in the sketch) says it was their “white whale.”  So knowing that Ryan Gosling was the host and he’s always up for fun, they threw their comedic harpoon and it hit the bullseye.  If you haven’t seen it, please do check it out.  It’s a guaranteed mood improver.  The sketch includes great performances from Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Kenan Thompson and of course the always-up-for fun Ryan Gosling.

Could it be that this will inspire a live-action Beavis and Butthead with Ryan Gosling?  And will he do Cornholio?
