Iconic Cyberpunk, Neuromancer Happening on Apple TV+?

WILLIAM GIBSON’S BRILLIANT CYBERPUNK, NEUROMANCER, HAPPENING ON APPLE TV+

I have to say that I’m excited about this news.  Neuromancer, if you didn’t know, is a seminal and iconic novel in the cyberpunk genre.  If you’re a geek, nerd or are even slightly weird with an IQ over 130, you definitely already know what I’m talking about.  Neuromancer was written by William Gibson, whose prose captured millions of people’s imaginations, including mine.  But this particular book was a New York Times Bestseller, so it’s a proven commercial winner.  And now, finally, someone is moving ahead and turning this book into a show.  That someone, not too surprisingly given the success of Foundation, is Apple TV+.

IT’S BEEN 40 YEARS SINCE NEUROMANCER WAS PUBLISHED, AND NOW IT GETS SCREEN TIME AT LAST

I’ve been hearing literally for years that Neuromancer would be a movie or tv show.  And considering the book first came out in 1984, we’re talking a lot of rumors over a lot of years.  Now, it’s apparently finally happening, with one season in the works including 10 episodes of past sci-fi future goodness.  And speaking of future, there will be a little bit of a wait, of course.  Since we’re only hearing about it now, the current schedule has the show being a reality and on-screen somewhen in 2025.  That’s a bit more than a Thanksgiving Day movie trailer for Christmas, but this one is worth staying excited for.

NEUROMANCER SUCCESS ON APPLE TV+ COULD OPEN THE DOOR TO MORE CLASSIC PRODUCTIONS

And I do mean excited.  If you’re not familiar with Cyberpunk in general, I heartily recommend you read this Neuromancer, regardless of whatever square horse you hoist your intellectual petard on.  Then I recommend you also read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, which may make you think of the movie Ready Player One just a bit.  If you can handle the first two, then I heartily recommend you also read Aristoi by Walter Jon Williams.  Hopefully, when Neuromancer blows a much wider audience’s collective minds (including yours), we’ll hear news of these books as headed to the screen as well.
