NOT ONLY IS DICK VAN DYKE STILL ALIVE, HE’S STILL MARRIED TO WOMAN 46 YEARS YOUNGER
So this is a shock piece. As in, I’m shocked. I had no idea whatsoever that Dick Van Dyke was even still alive! I don’t remember him working for years. But the man is 96 years old! I vaguely, vaguely remember hearing that he got married to a much younger woman, and only now realize that was 10 years ago. When he was 86! And his wife Arlene Silver is a LOT younger, to the tune of 46 years younger. She is about my age, at 50. I try imagining being married to someone 4 years away from 100 and utterly fail.

But we are talking about Dick Van Dyke, a major icon and film celebrity. I have to say that I do remember assuming that his now wife of 10 years had to be a “gold digger.” That’s a theme that seems so often to be true when someone so much younger marries someone so much older who has more money. But in this case, it really doesn’t seem to be the case. They’ve been together for a decade now, which is much longer than a gold digger’s usual timeline. A cynic would say that she is just very patient. And while I’m a cynic, I don’t think that’s the case here. And did I mention that Dick Van Dyke is still alive?

Sure, that’s maybe tongue in cheek cynical. But I do have pandemic brain like everyone else. My sense of time is frayed, and my sense of what happened and when these last few years is way off kilter. And when it comes to celebrity news and gossip, I’ve always been hopeless. But it’s nice to see that Dick Van Dyke is still alive and happily married. The two were spotted last week in Malibu, California, leaving a fitness class at a gym. And now I see that they had a viral video for Valentine’s Day a couple months ago. I clearly missed it, because I had no idea Dick Van Dyke was even still alive! But clearly not only alive, but happy, active and happily married!
To think that Mary Poppins came out in the year 1964! And now I see that Julie Andrews is still alive, too! But she’s only 86!
