US POPULATION WHO IDENTIFY AS LGBTQ DOUBLES OVER LAST TEN YEARS, TO 7%+!
So many things keep changing with the supposedly “modern” world, even in the US. Many of them are surprising, though often not in the way we expect. Technology and social media, the ongoing pandemic, climate change are just a few to consider. Though they all overlap in terms of how things are changing and why. But what about how people identify as their sexual identity? Because it doesn’t surprise me at all to learn that in the US, over 7% of adults now identify as LGBTQ. And yes, that is an increase. A big one. It’s double the number from just ten years ago!

ALFRED KINSEY’S IDEA OF LGBTQ POPULATION NUMBERS WAS QUITE POSSIBLY SPOT ON
So sure, this number is sure to be controversial. And why not? Bigots have had a hard time with these populations for a loooong time. Alfred Kinsey guess-timated decades ago that the LGBTQ number is likely about 10%, worldwide. And “experts” surely have bruises from their arm rests debunking that number for all these years. Because what does it mean if a tenth of the population doesn’t identify as exclusively hetero? Well, it means it’s totally normal by the numbers, is what it means. And here we are in the year 2022, and the usual suspects still find it to be surprising.

BUT SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES SAY NEW LGBTQ NUMBERS ARE JUST A FAD? WHAT?
And by surprising, I mean they find it to be suspect. Because it doesn’t fit into their own worldview, it must be wrong. And while not every Gallup Poll is by any means perfect, these numbers have indeed changed by double over ten years. Gallup has explained that the LGBTQ jump is largely due to Generation Z, or adults who are 18-25 years of age. But social conservatives, the afore-mentioned bigots above, just think these numbers are a “fad.” But really, it’s just because this (soon to be) tenth of the total population feels less of a reason to hide.
Right up until the social conservatives’ worldview goes for their ropes and guns again, of course.
