Get Paid to Taste Cider At Oregon State University

SPECIAL EVENT WHERE YOU GET PAID $50 TO TASTE CIDER IN PORTLAND, OREGON

It’s not often that I lament living on the East coast.  As opposed to living on the West Coast, of course.  Well, except for the more laid-back culture, nice beaches, micro climates, wine, exceptional local breweries… etc.  But here I am, now lamenting that I don’t live anywhere near Portland, Oregon.  Portlandia flashbacks aside, the reason I wish I could be there in a few days is because there is evidently a way to get paid to taste cider.  Well, ciders, plural.  On July 19th and 20th, people who are eligible and show up will get paid $50 to taste hard cider at Oregon State University.

EVEN IF CIDER ISN’T YOUR GO-TO HOIST TO WHET, THIS EVENT PAYS TO ANYONE’S TASTE

I wasn’t too much of a cider fan until recently, when I tried a local cider in Pennsylvania called Little Round Hop which was on tap at an eatery not too far from the highway I was passing on.  It’s pretty much nectar, and made me wonder what else was out there if something so good could be made in Pennsylvania, of all places.  What other nectars are out there in terms of cider that you can only find totally locally?  But Oregon is home to amazing beer breweries, such as Deschutes Brewery, home of the incredible dark (DARK) beer, the Abyss.  I’d kind of have to assume that Oregon also has some amazing cider, too.

EVENT IS GEARED TO THE “CIDER CURIOUS,” OR ANYONE WITH THE TIME TO EARN $50 OF TASTY HAPPINESS

So I wish I could be there at Oregon State University’s taste test at their Food Innovation Center in 2 weeks.  The organizers are looking for people who are “cider curious” to taste test hard cider concoctions.  They don’t want people who drink cider as their go-to bicep exercise of choice, but people who have liked cider before and are curious to try more (that’s me!).  The tasting is to help Pacific Northwest cider makers and cideries know what consumers like when they drink a hard cider.

If you are anywhere near there in two weeks, have a look at this survey and see if you can go drink cider for free.  Well, and get paid $50, too!
