5 times Waffle House is Mentioned in Rap Songs

Rappers are big fans of The Waffle House, Duh, isn’t everyone? Hip-hop artists and the 24 hours per day breakfast joint have both been staples for quite some time now. The House originated in Atlanta, which is also a hip-hop hub. It’s easy to see how this marriage has blossomed over the years. They serve up diner style food at almost 2,000 locations across the US, and has the glory of being one of the most called out restaurants in rap. Here’s the top 5 times rappers mentioned Waffle House in rap songs:

Kanye West — “30 Hours”

Got a hotel room, 3 stars for you / You call down for an omelet / Girl it’s 5 in the morning / You realize we at the DoubleTree, not the Aria / Only thing open is Waffle House, girl don’t start with me

When the hotel kitchen is closed and room service fails, Kanye notes that you can always count on the local House down the street. Around 3 a.m. on a morning in 2015, Kanye hit up an Atlanta Waffle House with the deans of southern rap, Big Boi and Andre 3000. Earlier that year, he and Kim Kardashian went on a double-date at a Waffle House in Arizona with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.

2 Chainz — “24 Hours” and “Big Amount”

24/7 like the Waffle House / Three cell phones, still nothin’ to talk about

6 trey, 6-4 bounce, (expletive), bounce / Hood (expletive), favorite spot was the Waffle House / Patty melt with the hash browns / Tryna avoid all the pat downs

Most rappers probably agree that a patty melt is better than a police pat down, but 2 Chainz really enjoys a grilled sandwich.

Jay-Z — “Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)”

2 a.m. now I’m gettin’ with her / 3 a.m. now I’m splittin’ with her / 4 a.m. at the Waffle House / 5 a.m. now we at my house

Even rappers from New York like it. Jay-Z might have been the first to mention it in a song too, as this track off “Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter” came out in 1999.

Big Boi — “Da Next Day” Straight from Waffle House

Like you just got a scholarship / Or like a Waffle House waitress with a dollar tip / Don’t let them see you sweat, (expletive) all the parlor tricks / Better gone, get some gold, (expletive) that dollar, (expletive)

Big Boi recognizes that the waiters and waitresses serving the waffles are working just as hard as the chefs cooking them. Next time you’re at The House, be sure to leave a generous tip.

Lil Wayne — “Cash Out”

My (expletive) smoke like coffee shops / That’s syrup gang, Waffle House / Gunfight, I’ll knock you out

This is from Lil Wayne’s  “Dedication 4” mixtape, where he raps over an instrumental song. Weezy also mentions it in a second track, a song off a 2008 mixtape, called “Me and My Drank.”
