Polymarket Sees Half A Million Bet On Jesus Christ Returns in 2025

ON POLYMARKET, PEOPLE ARE MAKING THE BET THAT JESUS CHRIST WILL RETURN IN 2025 (OR NOT)

It’s impossible not to notice how much more people gamble now, and it will be even more tomorrow.  You can’t browse the internet without seeing some kind of ad for sports betting from one platform or another.  And while I do tend to happily fantasize over Powerball from time to time, I don’t get a rush when I plop down a couple bucks for a randomly generated ticket.  But with betting these days, random is IN.  Every political race, dead pools (no red tights), whatever anyone can think of to make a bet on happens every day.  But placing a bet that Jesus Christ will Return in 2025?  Apparently, half a million betting volume on Polymarket makes it so.

WILL JESUS CHRIST RETURN IN 2025?  A “YES” BET IS 3 CENTS; A “NO” VOTE 97 CENTS

And with politics and religion being as crazy as they are in America, I shouldn’t be surprised.  But it makes me want to swear with a particular biblical name that I’ve already written here.  Because, really?  And if you want to get in on the “action,” you can buy a YES share on Polymarket (a bet) for a grand total of 3 cents.  Well, only if someone else takes the agnostic investment view and matches your “he is risen again” bet for 97 cents for NO.  And, well, that’s exactly what’s happening, with a volume that’s over $518,000.  So far!

EVEN IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE (EITHER WAY) A LOT OF PEOPLE ON BOTH SIDES COULD MAKE MONEY

So how does this work in terms of having your bet pay off, either way?  Well, essentially you are betting YES against someone willing to put money down for NO against you.  So if Jesus returns before the end of 2025, a YES share will be worth $1, taking the NO position’s money.  But for the NO’s out there (and no, NO doesn’t mean Yes; it never did), they stand to get the same amount: $1, or 3 cents richer per share.  It seems paltry, but making this bet either way could pay off no matter what Jesus does.

Based on the time value of money (which essentially means a dollar today is worth more than tomorrow, because you can do things with it today like make bets on the Return of Jesus), if enough NO shares sell, the YES share holders could then sell their positions and double their money.  But when it comes to these choices, I have to ask: WWJD?
