SWISS POWERLIFTER BREAKS WORLD RECORD, BURIED IN SNOW FOR 2 HOURS!
I like powerlifting, even though I don’t practice it. I also like snow, when I don’t have to shovel or drive thru it. But I never thought I’d hear of an intentional relationship the two, and it’s a pretty random one. Elias Meyer is a Swiss competitive powerlifter who decided to take on a challenge I’m not sure many people would consider. For a host of reasons. He decided to push the limits of his body in a direction that didn’t involve weights at all, and broke the world record for being buried in snow for a stunning 2 hours.

ONCE POWERLIFTER REALIZED NO ONE EVER MADE IT TO 2 HOURS, HE HAD A COLD GOAL IN MIND
While I’m not familiar with the dynamics of what’s involved physically for cold endurance practices like this, I’m sure it could be dangerous for most people. Because this Swiss powerlifter let himself be buried in snow while wearing nothing but a pair of swimming trunks. I’ve heard of blue balls before, but never self-inflicted like this! And as it turns out, his reasoning for doing this seems to be a bit whimsical. He decided to go for it when he realized no one had ever broken the 2-hour mark buried in snow. That’s all it took for him to go for it.

POWERLIFTER SAID THE COLD WASN’T BAD, BUT THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW WAS CHALLENGING
The previous record was held by a Polish man, Valerjan Romanvoski, who spend 1 hour and 45 minutes buried in snow back in 2022. I can only imagine that those extra 15 minutes and 5 seconds that the powerlifter endured had to be somewhat challenging. Yet the now Guinness record holding powerlifting said that the cold wasn’t so bad, it was the weight of the snow pressing down on him that was challenging. But he certainly achieved his goal, which was to demonstrate that the “body is capable of incredible things.”
It’s impressive, to be sure. But this now dated feat was literally incredible and remains disturbing.
