The Odd Timing of Westboro Baptist Church Comments and Maui Devastation

VERY ODD TIMING OF WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH PRESS RELEASE CONDEMNING HAWAII JUST BEFORE MAUI WILDFIRES

Hate sells for some people and groups.  And at the top of my list in the group category has to be Westboro Baptist Church.  The WBC is an unaffiliated American Primitive Baptist church in Topeka, Kansas.  While the WBC is notable for being a Primitive Baptist Church that’s a long way from most of their brethren in the American South, they are notable for a much uglier reason.  They are hateful, say hateful things, and many people even consider them to be a hate group.  You probably remember them for their public demonstrations against homosexuals, saying things like “God hates fags” and “Thank God for dead soldiers.”  WBC members have also engaged in hate speech against atheists, Jews, Muslims, transgender people, and Hawaii.  Yes, I said Hawaii.  And their recent press release “HAWAII IS GOING TO BE UTTERLY DESTROYED”, with odd timing right before the Maui devastation, is notable.

“HAWAII IS GOING TO BE UTTERLY DESTROYED” SIMPLY GOT THE NAME OF THE ISLAND WRONG

And by odd timing I mean they released that lovely headlined press release on the Friday just before wildfires wreaked near total havoc on the forever until then lovely and peaceful island of Maui.  Here’s a piece of their not very Christian press release: “The watchmen who were appointed in providence to warn the inhabitants of Hawaii utterly failed! Instead of warning against sin and death, they have championed the cause of idolatry, fornication, adultery, sodomy, pride – every behavior God called abominable and swore would bring destruction. The warning having failed, soon comes the judgment”-.  Truly, hateful people love to spread the word, just not the word of anyone’s God.  This seems to be especially true of hateful people who claim to live devout lives.

WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH MAY HAVE ONLY BEEN ANGLING FOR A NICE, TAX-FREE VACATION

But the press release did get something right.  The line “the watchmen who were appointed in providence to warn the inhabitants of Hawaii utterly failed!”  Except, of course, that it was Maui.  But the watchmen did utterly fail there to warn everyone that there was a calamity happening, as it was happening, leading to a still to be determined number of fatalities and the destruction of multiple communities and history.  But members of the Westboro Baptist Church also said they would visit three Hawaiian churches to spread the good (hateful) word.  I have no idea if that happened.  But it’s a surefire way to get a nice vacation on a tax-free church expense.

I guess if you’re going to criticize erstwhile idolators, you need to do some research up close.  In paradise, as it were.
