So there’s this guy and his name is Satharith. His dad, Billy, had just opened up a brand new donut shop, Billy’s Donuts, in Missouri City, Texas. But their grand opening didn’t go so well at all. They had no business to speak of! And that made Satharith pretty sad. So he took to Twitter to express that sadness. He tweeted, “My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop.” But even he had no idea just how well his tweet would hit the market. It turned out to be what we can only call a totally brilliant marketing move on his part that went viral. Before he even knew it was time to make the donuts again, they had sold out of all their donuts and kolaches.

TWEET GOES INSANELY VIRAL, CHANGES EVERYTHING WITHIN 48 HOURS
So within a day of his tweet other people retweeted it more than 150,000 times. By the next day? The retweets climbed up to 260,000 times. That’s just within a couple of days. The 30th most retweeted tweet is only 630,000 by a boy band in South Korea. But these are donuts and we’re talking a couple of days only! But by Monday morning, local media were interviewing young Billy, with a potential spot on CNN! Twitter representatives were even at the shop greeting customers as they arrived. Twitter bought out the entire store’s stock, meaning free donuts for anyone who showed up.

So on Monday Billy played host with the Twitter reps in the front. Satharith was totally busy in the back while his aunt worked the register.
