POLICE ARREST PENNSYLVANIA MAN, FOUND OVER 100 HUMAN SKULLS IN GRAVE ROBBER’S BASEMENT
Grave robbing. It’s a term we’ve all heard before, usually in a book (fiction, I hope) or from a tv show or a movie. I remember hearing it used in reference to local people protesting archeologists digging up their ancestors. But really, how often do you think to see or hear this term used, totally and disturbingly literally functionally? Because here’s an instance that is more than a little disturbing. It’s downright ghoulish. Last week, local authorities arrested 34-year-old Jonathan Gerlach, who’s from Ephrata, Pennsylvania. And they arrested him because not only is he a grave robber, they had insane justification to do so; they found over 100 human skulls. In his basement.

POLICE CAUGHT CRIMINAL GHOUL WITH A BURLAP BAG FILLED WITH HUMAN REMAINS
Police started their investigation that led to the disturbing arrest when they grew suspicious over activity at the Mount Moriah Cemetery. And by activity, we’re talking about multiple mausoleums and vaults that had been vandalized since last November. Let’s just say that the cops managed to catch Gerlach redhanded, as they busted him near the cemetery carrying a burlap bag. And what was in the bag? The mummified remains of two children, three skulls, and other human bones. Not surprisingly, they arrested him on the spot. But then they searched the grave robber’s home.

Gerlach’s home was, essentially, gruesome. Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rose described it as “a horror movie come to life.” Authorities found the mentioned 100-plus skulls, long bones, mummified hands and feet. They also found multiple decomposing torsos that were in varying stages of decay. Despite the number of human skull, Gerlach has only admitted to taking about 30 sets of remains from their graves. Authorities are investigating whether this ghoul was selling or trading human remains. Gerlach is currently being held on a $1 million bond, with charges that so far include abuse of a corpse, burglary and the desecration of graves.
The investigation is ongoing.
