Porn Abstainers for Lent Cause 17 Percent Malware Drop

LENT PORN PENANCE CAUSES DROP IN MALWARE RATES

Who’d a thunk it?  People give up all kinds of things for Lent to show their faith in the Easter Season.  Some give up meat, booze, treats, or any kind of luxury practice.  Even swearing!  But porn?  Evidently enough people consider porn to be a normal pleasure that their abstaining caused a surprising result.  Porn abstainers were such a large group that there was a 17% drop in infected computers from malware, viruses and the like.  Evidently keeping things well in hand, or not as the case may be, keeps a lot of things from getting infected.

PORN ABSTAINERS CAUSE 17% DROP IN COMPUTER INFECTIONS

Of course, this is only so far in the Christian Lenten season.  But security experts definitely noticed the sudden drop in computer infections.  Technicians at Enigma Software saw a drop of nearly one in five malware infections since Ash Wednesday on February 14th.  Quite a number of practicing Christians include penance over the 4-day period of Lent.  Many fast or quit swearing.  Some wake up earlier or deny themselves the most mundane of things they enjoy.

EASTER BUNNY KILLS THE MOOD FOR PORN THE LAST TWO YEARS

So this year Lent ends on March 29th, or three days before Easter Sunday on April Fools Day.  But the sudden drop in malware infections caught experts’ eyes.  They quickly realized the cause was the religious period this year!  But it wasn’t too difficult as porn site visit times also noticeably dropped too.  The connection wasn’t tenuous.  Enigma Software spokesperson Ryan Gerding told media, “It’s very common for people who participate in Lenten activities to curtail usage of things like social media and technology in general in the weeks leading up to Easter.  They may also reduce the amount of time spent on adult websites, which are common sources of malware infections. We think the combination of those activities together help to explain why computer malware infections drop during Lent.”

PAINT YOUR EGGS BLUE, THEN FIND THEM AGAIN!

But Gerding gave some recent context, too.  He said that malware infections dropped 14% last year during Lent, too.  But back one more year in 2016 no one saw these numbers.  But Pornhub’s analytics team did see a jump in searches for the term “bunny.”  Go figure!  So if you are one of these abstainers too and are among the sheep in this flock, maybe consider painting a couple of your eggs blue this year!  You can always have a fun hunt for them after!
