State of New York About to Finally Legalize Adultery?

THE STATE OF NEW YORK IS POISED TO AT LAST REPEAL THE LAW CRIMINALIZING ADULTERY

It’s shocking to some, but there are a host of crazy laws that are still on the books in various states in America.  Like how it’s a misdemeanor to hurt Bigfoot in Skamania County, Washington.  Or how doing a remix of the National Anthem is totally illegal in all of Massachusetts.  Yet somehow, it’s only a misdemeanor to sell a baby in Pennsylvania?  And when it comes to the age of consent, the numbers are all over the place.  Yet in New York, some sanity somehow has manifested, with the effort to finally legalize…. Adultery.

ADULTERY HAS BEEN AGAINST THE LAW IN NEW YORK SINCE 1907, AND IT’S TIME FOR THAT TO END

So lest you be confused, to be clear adultery has been a misdemeanor crime in New York since the year 1907.  And technically, it still is.  In fact, it’s a crime to commit adultery in 17 American states.  Three of them charge it as a felony!  That’s insane.  But it’s the law.  But New York Assemblyman Charles Levine is taking a legislative poke at the old, legal patriarchal bear.  He’s sponsored Assembly Bill A4714, which when presumably passed will totally repeal the law criminalizing adultery in the Empire State.  It’s already passed a 137-10 vote in the Assembly and is up for a vote in the state Senate.

OKLAHOMA, WISCONSIN AND MICHIGAN STILL CONSIDER ADULTERY TO BE A FELONY OFFENSE!

Roughly 12 people have been charged with the “crime” of adultery since 1972, with a total of 5 convictions.  The last person charged was in 2010, a married woman caught having sex with someone else in a public park.  But she took a plea deal to get the charges dropped.  Besides the brave move to decriminalize Adultery in New York, Colorado and New Hampshire are looking to do the same.  But Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Michigan still have it on the books as a felony.  Really, Michigan?
