Highlander Reboot?  There Can Only Be Another One

THERE CAN ONLY BE (ANOTHER) ONE!  HIGHLANDER REBOOT MOVES FORWARD WITH HENRY CAVILLE AT LAST

If you’re old -with the definition of being old meaning you still have all your connective tissue intact- then you probably saw the movie Highlander in the theater.  You know, back when people only watched movies (in letterbox, anyway) in a movie theater.  I certainly am old, and I certainly did.  And hell, the movie was great fun, especially at the time.  And the main catchphrase from the movie was, “There can only be one.”  And for 37 years since the movie acme out in 1986, that’s been true.  Except?  Except for the fact that there may be a reboot.  Thank you, I’ll have another!  And this time, with Henry Caville as a precocious, immortal Scottish man.

HIGHLANDER REBOOT HAS HENRY CAVILLE AS LEAD, JOHN WICK’S CHAD STAHELSKI AS DIRECTOR

It seems that Highlander has been one of several movies from the 80’s that Hollywood has wanted to do a remake of.  And that’s because the 80’s are a veritable reboot goldmine, let’s be honest.  And evidently, Henry Caville was attached to a Highlander reboot just two years ago, though there’s been no news since.  But now there’s reporting that Lionsgate is possibly about to put the reboot in potential up for sale at the soon to be held American Film Market (AFM).  And there may just be a market for that, as it already has Chad Stahelski slated as director (John Wick) as well as a budget of over $100 million.

A HIGHLANDER REBOOT HAS BEEN KICKED AROUND FOR 15 YEARS, AND NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE QUICKENING

Evidently, the Hollywood strikes have driven down the market in terms of demand by distributors to buy movie rights.  But the now moving forward Highlander reboot should have enough exciting traction to liven up the AFM.  Currently, the there-can-only-be-another project is slated to start filming in 2024.  But that darn strike could cause a delay, as it clearly has already for the release of  finished projects (say, like Dune 2).  But even with all the general uncertainty, I’m actually kind of excited.  The idea of doing a reboot of Highlander has been kicked around for 15 long years already!

Waiting that long has almost been cause for me to lose my damn head.
