Why did Eminem Go Berzerk

Hey remember Eminem? Right about now you are probably saying, “he put out an album called Recovery like four years ago. Why are you acting like he has been missing?” Well, because he has been missing.

Fans and casual observers have noticed a dramatic shift in Mr. Mathers’ mentality. His past few releases have been deviations from what made him an Academy award winning rapper. Not only has the content and tone changed but his rhymes have been all over the place, barely getting points across and sputtering at times, resembling one of those old beat up General Motors vehicles that now litter the streets of Detroit.

Now the 8-mile emcee has done one simple thing that gives his fans hope: he dyed his hair blonde again.  Oh yeah, and he is releasing a new album on Nov. 5th titled the Marshall Mathers LP 2. The album is executive produced by Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin. This marks the first time that Mathers and Rubin have collaborated.

Now a guy dying his hair should not be the sign that things are about to start looking up, but for fans of Eminem this is actually a big deal.

Eminem debuted the video for his new single, “Berzerk” and his new look during “Saturday Night Football” on ESPN; fans couldn’t get enough. Not only was he sporting the blonde Caesar hairstyle that he made famous in the 90’s but he was acting like his old self, which means it seemed like he was on drugs. Thank god for his well being it was just a little acting to get fans talking as he snapped out of it halfway through before admitting, “live TV freaks me out.”

Now whether or not Eminem is still sober is up for debate; after that appearance on ESPN it would be one hell of an argument. What is not up for debate is that he has acknowledged what his fans want. They want the jokester of rap, the guy who is bouncing off the walls using funny voices and making fun of the biggest stars of today and yesterday.  From all accounts it seems like he was able to give the fans the aspects of his career that they loved while not experiencing the same pitfalls of fame that led to his drug overdose.

On the whole, the reaction to all of these rumblings from shady records have been mixed. Longtime fans fear that this album will not only be subpar but that it will tarnish the image of the Marshall Mathers LP which is regarded as one of the best Rap albums of all-time. Some people think that Recovery was his best work and — Okay, nobody thinks that.

Whenever a legend announces a new album there is always a certain level of skepticism and disbelief, but now the clock is ticking and on Nov. 5th the world will get to weigh in. Through all the changes and inconsistencies over the past few years one thing is clear:

Shady’s back, tell a friend.
