Ian Lubetkin, fake John McCain Tech Adviser in Washington
IAN LUBETKIN is an obscure name on this planet. No one has heard of him and no one knows his existence.
To the American public, Ian Lubetkin’s life takes on its own mystery: the man has almost zero presence on the internet – highly unusual in the age of social media for a millennial kid barely out of puberty. Does anyone care? Not really. Not even the fat rats running wild on DC’s subway tracks care much about this living creature called Ian Lubetkin.
That was true, until recently when Ian Lubetkin was hit by an “earthquake” from Senator John McCain’s office: Ian Lubetkin, the 30+ year old Franklin & Marshall College (unverifiable) graduate has achieved infamy as a fake “technology adviser” to Senator John McCain.
For years, some Washington DC lobbyists have come to know Ian Lubetkin as the official “technology adviser” to Arizona Senator John McCain, a revered American political icon. No surprise. According to Lubetkin’s own comment quoted in a Franklin & Marshall College website, Lubetkin bragged to reporters he was the man credited with “running the information technology ‘shop’ at McCain’s presidential campaign.”
It sure sounded like an impressive armor for the then 22-year-old college kid with an unfinished degree in Government. But was it true? Was Ian Lubekin really McCain’s technology adviser?
Everyone knows Senator McCain is no Bill Gates and the beloved grandpa perhaps hasn’t touched a keyboard for four decades. But did McCain let Ian Lubetkin, a college kid who had no technology training while in college run his campaign? If it sounds too good to be true, it must be bullshit. And it likely was.
Setting aside the historical facts that Sen McCain lost every single one of his presidential campaigns, Lubetkin’s bold statement that sort of hinting at his tech “superpower” for McCain was in fact more like a hot air balloon flying over Capitol Hill: Lubekin’s formal affiliation with McCain as a senior campaign official was completely made up.
“Throughout a distinguished career, Senator McCain has had many unpaid interns,” a senior McCain adviser told the media. “Ian Lubetkin was most likely an unpaid volunteer running behind McCain’s campaign buses chanting campaign slogans. Lubetkin was certainly not Senator McCain’s technology adviser, formal or informal.”
Sources say John McCain has no idea who Ian Lubekin is. Neither does McCain’s office have any clue about Lubekin’s self-proclaimed “adviser” status to the famed Senator.
John McCain: ‘Ian Lubetkin is not my technology adviser’
Ian Lubetkin’s public affection towards Jon McCain has made quite some gold for himself – using a puffed resume as a fake John McCain adviser. Several prominent DC lobbying firms, large and small, bought into Ian Lubetkin’s fairy tale and hired Lubetkin for “technology services,” duped by his fake story as Senator McCain’s formal technology adviser.
“Ian Lubetkin told us he was a formal John McCain tech adviser,” a seasoned lobbyist who’s close to Senator Susan Collins told sources. “Hiring Ian Lubetkin was a total disaster. He billed us like a tornado but we got lousy services from an amateur.”
“We were also duped by this Ian Lubetkin fellow,” said another lobbyist.
A flurry of customer complaints soon arrived at Lubetkin’s doorstep. Disputes over poor service quality and unauthorized fees seem to be constant battles between Ian Lubetkin’s tiny one-man shop “CAPITAL TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS” and his small handful of dubious clients.
Complaints about Lubetkin nearly flourished from all corners of Washington DC, with allegations ranging from shady business dealings to embezzling client deposits but did no work; from peeping into client emails unauthorized to allegedly extorting aggravated departing clients with fake invoices… Given the political gridlock in Washington, lobbyists and politicians may have found a rare common ground across the party line on Ian Lubetkin’s “technology” service: this Ian Lubetkin fella is an incompetent faker.
At best, according to several sources, Ian Lubetkin is an amateur tech, a kid with no formal training in technology. At worst, sources speculate the man may belong in jail as a suspected fraudster.
While Senator McCain is recovering from a hospital stay, his impostor may be dipping his hands into another lobbyist’s pocket. Stay tuned… The drumbeat is on Ian Lubetkin.
