ITALIAN THIEVES MAKE HEIST OF $2.3 MILLION, PRYING OPEN ARMORED TRUCK WITH BACKHOES
Can you say, la cosa nostra? Sure, you can. But that’s because this happened in Southern Italy. Robbers made away with some $2.3 million in a stunning heist. The bold thieves used backhoes and burning trucks get the money and get away from police. It makes the armored truck hit job in the film Heat look pretty damn tame in comparison. Clearly, these guys (or ladies?) knew what they were doing and planned accordingly. It’s like someone made up an improbable story line for TV. But this was real, and it worked.
TRUCK WAS PACKED WITH CASH FOR LOCAL PENSIONERS FOR POST OFFICES
The armored truck had departed the local city of Bari. It was transporting the pensions for distribution in Matera (city) post offices. But while it was en route, the robbers blocked the money truck with two giant trucks on the road. They then used two backhoes that literally tore the money truck open like a tin can. Here you can think of James Bond on the train, doing just the same. But this was real! With the truck open to the sky, the thieves packed up the money and got into their getaway car.
THIEVES ESCAPED SETTING GIAN TRUCKS ON FIRE, TO BLOCK ANY PURSUING COPPERS
So how did they escape? Well, the very same giant trucks that stopped the money truck on the road they then used as a second blockade. But this time it was to block any pursuing police. SO how did they do that, exactly? Well, they set them on fire. The double blazes then made the road impassable and no pursuit was possible or safe. As in, don’t need a safe cracker. But fortunately, unlike in Heat, the three guards in the money truck were completely unharmed. But so far, there’s no reporting on how much it will cost to get the stains out of their pants. Maybe they should eat more bananas?
