OK NOT OK WOMAN MARRIES ADOPTIVE MOTHER
Queue the banjos, again. This is a story out of Oklahoma that will leave you shaking your head. A young woman, at the time 25-year-old Misty Velvet Dawn Spann, is shown in court records to have married a woman, 42-year-old Patricia Spann, back in September of 2016. Six weeks later the marriage was annulled in Duncan, Oklahoma. The trouble was and is that Patricia is Misty’s adoptive mother. Now Misty has pleaded guilty to incestual marriage and faces a 10-year deferred sentence, according to news reports out of Tulsa.

Court records also show that Patricia had lost custody of her adopted children years ago when they were still little. Other reports show that Patricia had told investigators speaking to her about the marriage that she and her daughter had “hit it off” when they had reconnected three years ago. For some reason, Patricia was under the impression that she could legally marry her daughter because her name no longer appeared on Misty’s birth certificate. But the story only gets murkier the further back you go.

Patricia seems to have a history of marrying her children. She married her biological son Cody back in 2008, but the wedding was annulled two years later when he called it “incestuous.” There are no immediate reports of the Cody’s age at the time, nor of their relationship over the years preceding the “marriage.” Patricia, appropriately, is facing a trial this coming January over her charges of incest.
FAMILY MEMBERS DEFEND YOUNG WOMAN, FORCED TO MARRY PATRICIA
Other family members, including the brother Cody who experienced this ordeal himself for two years, have spoken up defending Misty in light of these charges and the general public reaction of dismay. They all believe that Misty was vulnerable to Patricia and had been pressured into the marriage. “She forced my sister into this, there’s a lot of people that know it,” Cody said. “For you to want to put your own daughter through this, what kind of person are you?”
The Mother, for her part, has said that she married her daughter in hopes of adopting another child.
