Octopussy Fabergé Pendant Recovered From Thief's Bowels

AUSTRALIAN AUTHORITIES RECOVER OCTOPUSSY FABERGÉ PENDANT FROM THIEF’S BOWELS

The world is a pretty strange place. And it’s only that much more strange with the news of a thief, still unidentified, who stole the Octopussy Fabergé Pendant while in Partridge Jewelers in Auckland, Australia on November 28th. And before gender inclusive younger folks get offended, Octopussy was the name of the 1983 James Bond movie starring Roger Moore. The Fabergé pendant was one of 50 made to promote the movie. Fortunately, while the thief was able to retain the pendant for 6 long days, authorities were able to recover it. Unfortunately for them, that meant extra vigilance as they waited for it to appear from the thief’s bowels.

And yes, this means what you think it means: the thief stole the Octopussy Fabergé pendant by swallowing it on the spot. No baggie, no container of any kind. He swallowed it down just as you see it pictured above. Which, by the way, is a picture of the pendant just after it was “recovered” on Friday and cleaned after authorities kept close watch on the thief during bathroom visits. I can’t help but noting the glimpse of a human digit wearing a thick rubber glove. All we know about the thief is that he is 32 years old, entered no plea at his first court appearance, is facing charges, and is behind bars until his next court appearance tomorrow.

The Octopussy Fabergé pendant is worth around $19,000. One of 50 identical pendants, it opens to display the 18 carat yellow gold octopus inside, which is decorated with white diamond suckers along with black diamond eyes. As a Bond movie fan, I can’t help but think that this is a pretty affordable memorabilia movie collectible. But on the other hand, I’m going to associate Fabergé with septic disgust for quite a while. I told you: the world is a pretty strange place and it just got a little stranger…..
