Nut Ball Lived a Year with Bodies of Mother and Twin Brother

MINNESOTA MAN GRIEVES BY KEEPING CORPSES OF BOTH MOTHER AND BROTHER IN HOUSE FOR A YEAR

It is Halloween season, after all.  One James Kuefler, a 60-year-old from White Bear, Minnesota, was charged by police with the interference of a dead body or a scene of death.  The charges are the direct result of the discovery that Kuefler lived for a year with the corpses of both is mother and twin brother.  Kuefler claims he didn’t report their deaths due to emotional trauma.  Most would assume only some kind of nut ball could make this choice for a year, trauma notwithstanding.

SUSPICIOUS NEIGHBORS ASKED POLICE TO INVESTIGATE HOUSE, GRUESOME DISCOVERIES FOLLOWED STENCH OF DECAY

The disturbing domestic scene came to light last Fall when neighbors asked police to investigate the Kuefler residence.  When officers responded and arrived at the house, they discovered that the house stank of decay.  Upon a basic search, they found the skeletal remains of Kuefler’s mother upstairs in a bedroom, and also the by-then mummified corpse of Kuefler’s twin, Richard, down in the basement.

MURDER NOT A FACTOR AS BOTH MOTHER AND BROTHER DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES

Yet foul play was not a factor, as confirmed by autopsies on the bodies which showed both mother and brother died of natural causes; first Richard in July 2015, and then his mother a month later.  “I was traumatized. What would you do?” Kuefler told The Associated Press. “I am not some nut ball. People think I am, but I’m not. I loved them.”

BROTHER’S BODY “IN THE WAY,” MOVED TO BASEMENT TO MUMMIFY

Kuefler had told police he found his brother dead in a chair and he “eventually moved the body to the bathroom as it was ‘in the way,’” according to a court document. He also told investigators he knew that his mother was dying, yet he “didn’t want to be around when she died, so he left the house to drive around a couple of hours.”

MAN DROVE AROUND TO AVOID MOTHER’S LAST MOMENTS, DIES ALONE

His mother was dead in her bed when he returned, according to the Star Tribune.

So Kuefler hid the deaths from family members, according to CBS News reports. He also even sent out Christmas cards telling everyone his brother and mom were in bad health and didn’t want visitors nor phone calls.

Police had initially accused Kuefler of the financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, but lacking evidence to support the charge they had to drop it, according to the Star Tribune.

Police Capt. Dale Hager said to the AP that both disability and Social Security checks for Kuefler’s mother and brother were directly deposited to their bank accounts as they had been set up to do, but none of the money was withdrawn.  Kuefler also told AP he did not tap into the accounts.

POLICE FILE CHARGES TO PROVIDE MAN WITH COUNSELING THRU COURTS, MAN INSISTS HE’S NORMAL

Hager said authorities then decided to file a misdemeanor charge against Kuefler to provide access to psychological help through the court system.

Kuefler, undeterred in his method and understanding of mourning, told the AP he doesn’t think he needs counseling.
