No More of the OA, As Netflix Cancels Possible Season 3?

NEFLIX SHITS THE BED, BETRAYS THEIR SMARTEST GEEK FANS, BY CANCELLING SEASON 3 OF THE OA

So what the fucking hell!  Netflix has cancelled The OA?  There will be no season 3?  There will be no conclusion to the story line they hooked us on for two seasons already?  What the fucking hell!?  Yes, I may just be a tad irate about this one.  But I’m a geek.  I’ve been a geek a long time. Certainly before companies cashed in on the geek cow like today.  So when I tell you that The OA was a narrative goldmine, I’m being totally serious.  No, this story didn’t regale us with explosions or crazy special effects.  The producers seasoned it with only the latter, pretty much.  But it was an amazing STORY.

DESPITE OUTCRY, NETFLIX SETS ITS SIGHTS ON MORE LINEAR, LESS THOUGHTFUL SCI-FI

But for whatever reason, Netflix has decided to pull the plug on this amazing story.  And yes, I am intentionally referencing the fantastic, Spielberg produced show from the 1980’s.  Those were also great narratives, if brief vignettes involving people in odd situations.  But The OA kind of came out of nowhere.  It’s a throwback to old-style storytelling.  You have to pay attention.  But you also have to immerse yourself in the pace and flavors of the story itself.  But I thought, mistakenly, that Netflix was going to pioneer off-beat art storytelling just a bit longer.

THE OA WAS UNIQUE, IT EXPECTED VIEWERS TO USE THEIR BRAINS AND KEEP UP WITH THE NARRATIVE

So what was the OA about?  Well, I’m not going to offer too many spoilers here.  Brit Marling played the main character.  In the story’s beginning, her character simply reappeared after she had been missing for a long time.  The first hook was that she was somehow no longer blind.  Until that moment, you didn’t really know you might be watching sci-fi in any way, shape or form.  But I suppose I’ll mention one other detail without hurting anything.  It’s especially poignant given recent events in Ohio and Texas.  There is a cliffhanger involving a possible mass shooting at a local high school.  It takes you there, along with the characters.

Now, we’ll never know what happens to them.  Epic fail, Netflix.  Big mistake.  HUGE.
