INDIAN LAW SCHOOL INSTALLS CAMERAS TO STOP BATHROOM CHEATING

This is almost too ridiculous to be true.  You’d think people couldn’t be that stupid, but you’d be wrong.  Law students at India’s Dharam Samaj Degree College were pretty upset to learn that the school had installed CCTV cameras in the men’s bathrooms.  The school installed the cameras in the bathrooms closest to the classrooms where they take entrance exams for law and business degrees.  That’s pretty much beyond ridiculous.  Can you imagine what you would do if you were one of these Indian law students?  What the hell does the college think it’s going to find in the bathrooms?  Nobody wants their school or anyone to film them in the bathroom.  But the school wants to stop bathroom cheating.

MALE STUDENTS PISSED AT THE LOO LULL, AS NO WOMEN FILMED

So, according to the school’s principal, Dr. Hem Prakash, they expect to find test cheaters.  He told local media, “We were receiving many complaints of students putting cheating material inside loos so we decided to install cameras to curb the practice.”  But students are pissed at their surveilled pissing.  Many of them have threatened to break the cameras.  I can certainly understand why.  While Prakash says that proctors will oversee the cameras, that doesn’t really seem ok, either.  Proctors are usually inside the classroom.  Not watching a monitor feed from somewhere.

COLLEGE SAYS LEGAL CHALLENGES WELCOME, BUT WHY ONLY THE MEN?  THAT’S DISCRIMINATION

Evidently the school officials are trying to stop students from passing study notes and testing materials to share answers.  Prakash believes they are using the bathroom to hide and retrieve these cheating notes.  But video cameras in the bathrooms themselves seems to be too much.  While students are looking into some kind of legal action, Prakash says the college got legal advisement before they installed the cameras.  But for some reason there are no cameras in the women’s bathrooms.

STUDENTS SAYS BATHROOM CAMS A DESPERATE BID TO HIDE SCHOOL’S FAILURE

One Indian law student, Sonu Thakur, was pretty critical of the College’s camera installation.  “We are being checked at the gate, in class and during the exam. It’s administrative failure if they can’t prevent cheating even then.”  That seems to be a fair critique of this camera installation to stop bathroom cheating.
