NASHVILLE WOMAN SHOOTS MAN TWICE IN MIDSECTION IN “WARNING”
This a pretty picture does not make. A Nashville woman, Katie Quackenbush, evidently decided that having a handgun gave her license to use it under very questionable circumstances. A homeless gentleman named Gerald Melton asked her to move her Porsche as it was making noise near where he was trying to sleep. What would you do? Drive away? Argue the point? I suppose that all depends on what kind of entitlement you walk around with every day, or just that day. We’d all like to think we’d do something other than shoot the guy twice with “warning” shots to scare him away.
ANOTHER CASE OF ARMED MEANS DANGEROUS, STAND YOUR GROUND MENTALITY PULLS THE TRIGGER
This all went down this past August at about 3AM near Nashville’s Music Row. Melton was trying to get some shut eye before sunrise and approached her in her Porsche SUV and asked her to move it as it was too noisy. It’s not clear how the rest of their interaction went, but as he walked away from Quackenbush she drew her handgun and shot him twice in the stomach area. Milton remains in critical condition in the hospital fighting for his life from the two shots.
Quackenbush has a different story, as told by her father who is a lawyer in Texas.

“She didn’t try and kill this guy,” Jesse Quackenbush told The Tennessean a few hours after his daughter was arrested on the charge of attempted murder. “She had no intention of killing him. She didn’t know that she hit him.”
According to the father, Melton was hassling other women in the area and she shot the gun and fired two “warning shots,” both of which happened to hit Melton in the gut. But Quackenbush left the scene, not even knowing her “warning shots” had hit Melton. That’s her story, and she’s sticking to it.

If she hadn’t had a gun, maybe she would have just gotten in her SUV and left. Now she’s booked into jail and facing a charge of attempted murder.
Clearly she shouldn’t have a gun anyway if her idea of using is to indiscriminately shoot “warning shots” and not bother to see whether they might have hit someone. What a lucky shot, though. Both of them, hitting him like that. That’s a helluva warning.
