SAD NEWS, AS AUTHORITIES CAPTURE AND KILL ESCAPED CHIMPANZEES FROM SWEDISH ZOO
Chimpanzees are smart. There’s a reason that humans have studies our smaller, more powerful cousins. They are, in many ways, very similar to humans. They are problem solvers and are very social. This means that they often solve problems together. That might explain how four of them somehow managed to escape from their zoo enclosure earlier this week and wandered around on their own for a while. The zoo they escaped from was the Furuvik zoo, near Stockholm, Sweden. But we their human captors were able to capture them all. Unfortunately, we also then euthanized, or killed them.

AUTHORITIES DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH TRANQUILIZER FOR THE CHIMPANZEES, SO KILLED THEM
But why did we kill them? Well, the reason is pretty tragic, actually. Annika Troselius, the press spokesperson for the organization that runs the zoo, explained that they killed the chimpanzees because they simply didn’t have enough tranquilizer for all of them. It simply wasn’t possible to get them back to their enclosure safely if they were conscious. Chimpanzees are so strong, they can easily maim and kill a human, and can literally tear us apart. You may remember the woman whose pet chimp tore her face off with its hand.

IT’S STILL A MYSTERY HOW THEY ESCAPED, AND THERE MAY STILL BE ANOTHER CHIMPANZEE AT LARGE
So far, no one has any idea how these escaped, captured and killed 4 chimpanzees managed to escape. Troselius also told Swedish radio that they believe that a 5th chimpanzee also left (escaped) its enclosure as well, though she offered no other details. The Furuvik zoo is just outside of Gavle, which sits about 100 miles north of Stockholm. It is part of an amusement park, and is the only primate research station in all of the Nordic countries. The zoo had 7 chimpanzees.
