“HUNGRY” HIPPO ATTACKS, SWALLOWS TODDLER WHOLE, BUT SPITS HIM BACK OUT ALIVE
I never really understood the game Hungry, Hungry Hippos. When I was little, I knew about hippos. Well, enough to know that they were large, kind of cute, and people were scared of them. But hungry? Of course, that’s before I knew about alliteration and marketing. But there is a reason people are scared of hippos. They are territorial and powerful. They regularly kill people on the African continent for accidentally getting too close. But in the Western District of Uganda, a toddler was just playing outside his home when a hippo attacked. It swallowed him whole! Somehow, it decided to spot him out, still alive!

BYSTANDER SAW ATTACK AND THREW STONES AT HIPPO UNTIL IT REGURGITATED CHILD, FLED
A man saw the hippo attack the child and did something insanely brave. He started throwing rocks at the hippo, which startled the gigantic mountain of muscle enough that it spat the boy out, still alive. It then ran back into Lake Edward, which was nearby. The attack has left locals shocked in Katwe Kabatoro Town Council, which is located within Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. Hippos regularly attack people in the water who get too close. And it’s easy to get too close as hippos can spend a long time submerged, holding their breath just under the surface of the water.

A HIPPO HAS NEVER LEFT THE WATER TO ATTACK A CHILD BEFORE, LOCALS STUNNED
There’s never been such an attack there before, where a hippo has left the lake and attacked a child on land. The child was rushed to a local hospital, where he was treated for fortunately minor injuries. The hospital also vaccinated him for rabies after the attack. Amazingly, he’s back at home with his parents. Hippos weigh as much as 2,800 to 7,000 pounds and kill about 500 people every year. And they are incredibly strong. Their biting power is three times stronger than a lion’s. So it’s amazing that this 2-year-old toddler is still alive.
I rather doubt he’ll ever play the game, Hungry Hungry Hippos.
