WISCONSIN BILL COULD SOON BAN ALL VPNS, CURTAIL FREE SPEECH AND ONLINE ANONYMITY
Well, this isn’t good. The state of Wisconsin is looking to pass a bill to create the foundation, legally, to literally end VPNs. The immediate ripple effect of that would in turn diminish free speech as well as anonymity. See? That’s not good. Even worse, it’s hard not to both see and understand that the bill is literally an attempt to create precedent, both politically and legally, for interested parties in the federal government. Other interested parties who would like such a thing to come to pass include every regime in the world that wants the ability to control content online, who gets to see it, and last but not least, being able to track who even tries to see it.
BANNING VPNS IS ALLEGEDLY NEEDED TO “PROTECT CHILDREN” FROM SEXUAL CONTENT
It’s ugly, to say the least. And the moral positioning for this is, ostensibly, to protect children. The idea behind the bill is sugar coated in an age requirement verification for any website perceived to include any form of “sexual content.” And then said websites would also be obligated to block any visitors who are connecting using VPNs. If that isn’t clear, this means almost any adult content could be labeled as “sexual content,” which is an incredibly broad brush, and even more concerning as legal precedent. Any websites talking about anatomy, sexuality, sexual identity, gender or even reproduction would fall into the VPNs ban.

BUT BANNING VPNS WOULD HAVE CATASTROPHIC EFFECTS FOR PRIVACY, DEMOCRACY WORLDWIDE
And that, in turn, would include any websites talking about any political concerns touching those topics. Which, in turn, means that interested parties in the federal government would be able to identify and track anyone who visits those websites. It essentially turns overbearing monitoring and control of porn into monitoring almost anything at all. And this only describes the immediate, domestic impact if the Wisconsin bill passes and starts these scary dominoes falling. Just think about anyone in Saudi Arabia getting sold out to their regime by Donald Trump for visiting women’s rights web content.
And any other non-Democratic country…. This isn’t good.
