OLD LADY GIVES SNAKES FINAL MORTAL COIL
When in Oklahoma, do as the Oklahomans do? The bar was set really high last Friday when a 72-year-old woman identified only as Mrs. Newby killed 11 copperhead snakes to prevent them from going under her house. She blasted them with a shotgun and then used a rake handle and shovel to bash them unto death.
Her neighbor Susan Thompson wrote that she is now dubbed the “snake killer” in a now deleted Facebook post. “Mrs Newby killed 11 copperheads last night at her house! She’s a snake killer if you need help call her! She is 72 years old!” Thompson wrote in the caption.
DEVIL OR CURSE WITH BIBLICAL SNAKES INVADING?
Now on high alert, Mrs. Newby is intently vigilant for continued snake prevention. Neighbor Thompson commented that “Mrs. Newby” planned to “sit outside last night and wait for some more” snakes to invade her home. After two more days went by a total of 17 snakes have gone the way of the serpent and are no more. Except, of course, there could be more.
So far, no other neighbors have commented if they have similar snake invasions. But at a minimum questions will be asked about what is attracting these snakes to this well armed and motivated grandma’s house.
COLD HEARTED OR HEROIC GRANDMA?
Thompson later added that Mrs. Newby, who appeared smiling and waving in the photo, had used a shotgun, shovel and rake handle to kill the snakes. “Oh my goodness !!! That is just crazy. !!!” one person commented. “Bless her heart!” another person wrote.
“I know her it’s been years since I’ve seen her but I used to keep her grand daughter Madelyn,” a friend commented, to which Thompson replied, “yep, that’s her then!” Thompson later called Mrs. Newby an “awesome lady,” adding that she “sure [does] love her.”
Awesome lady indeed, unless you slither, hiss and try to sneak under her home. Otherwise, tread lightly.
