JIMMY KIMMEL TO RESUME HIS DUTIES TONIGHT, AS DISNEY LEARNS HOW TO PLAY THE REAL GAME, LATE
I like a lot of what Jimmy Kimmel does, though the pranks with candy and kids was a little out there, I thought. But generally I like how his adolescent bent with humor turned into a career for him, a lot of his family and friends. And while he’s not alone (though the number is getting smaller), I really like how he as a comedian speaks truth to power. Or, at least, how he speaks truth to an audience about power. And as you know, Disney corporate caved (fast) last week after Trump’s MAGA loyalists issued tacit threats, and suspended Kimmel Live, indefinitely. Well, indefinitely was one week, with the show resuming tonight. It’s pretty clear Disney is late to the real game.

JUST DAYS AFTER SUSPENDING KIMMEL, DISNEY LOST OVER $4 BILLION IN VALUE
And what is the real game, you ask? Stepping up in these ongoing moments of authoritarian power grabs by the Trump Administration. Acquiescing to Trump is like handing cocaine to a rabid elephant that will only want more and will trample you with no hesitation. But the real game is also in knowing that there is a major distinction between the people who voted in 2024, the likely voters today, but most especially the other 30% of customers who didn’t vote. Because Disney found out the hard way, and fast, losing over $4 Billion in value in the days after suspending Jimmy Kimmel.

BRINGING KIMMEL BACK MEANS DISNEY FINALLY UNDERSTANDS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VOTERS AND CUSTOMERS
That’s something that Disney finally understood, but too late to stop all the losses. People, not all of them Kimmel fans, are still pissed at Disney. Getting him back on the air (if not 66 markets owned by one company which I will not name in the Google cache here) was the only move in play. I, for one, will be watching Kimmel Live tonight for the first time in years. No one should expect him to pull any punches. But we should expect that he and his writers have had ample time, a whole week, to hit everything with comedic exactitude.
You might want to tune in, as well. If you can, that is.
