AFTER THIS WEEK’S ICE SHOOTINGS, EVEN CENTRIST DEMS ON BOARD IMPEACHING KRISTI NOEM
Well, it’s been quite the week for ICE agents. You may have heard about how an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good, a mother of 3, in Minneapolis a couple days ago. Then you may have heard Trump and multiple other Republicans, including Kristi Nowm, describe Good as a domestic terrorist who threatened the life of federal agents and so was shot dead. And then you may have watched the video yourself and thought, WTF? But then you may have heard how immigration agents shot and wounded two people in Portland. There may have been another WTF? So it’s welcome news that conservadems, aka “Centrist” Democrats, are finally on board with impeaching Kristi Noem.
IMPEACHING KRISTI NOEM WITH THIS CONGRESS IS A LONG SHOT, BUT IT’S A NECESSARY START
Does impeachment have an ice cube’s chance in hell in passing a Republican majority Congress? Probably not so much. Not yet. But ICE agents’ behavior in violating civil rights, violent behavior which is always denied, arrests and harassment of American citizens and, yes, now multiple shootings and the murder of Renee Good are vastly accelerating negative feelings towards, ICE, if not the entire program. And Kristi Noem, while not the brainchild of this foreigner purge (that would be the truly evil Stephen Miller), is the one in charge of the program itself. And this week, with multiple shootings by ICE and the unnecessary death of an American citizen, is firmly putting impeaching Kristi Noem in normal, mainstream political dialogue.

Rep. Robin Kelly just announced 3 articles of impeachment of Noem, alleging that she has used her office for personal benefit (and profit), has obstructed congressional oversight (she has), and had coordinated unconstitutional actions that have compromised the safety of the public. And then there’s Rep. Brad Schneider (conservadem) who is the chair of the New Democrat Coalition (supposedly center left). Schneider said (today) that if Noem isn’t removed from office after the shootings this week, he’s “prepared to support congressional action, up to and including impeachment.” Reps. Betty McCollum, Sean Casten, and Sarah McBride have already made it clear they want to impeach Noem.
It’s not clear where this will go, or how fast. But it marks a major change in the political winds.
