Bad Timing? Yet Another Instance of Feds Raiding Wrong House

WITH THE SUPREMES SET TO RULE, MIGHT BE BAD TIMING FOR FEDS TO BE RAIDING THE WRONG HOUSE AGAIN

Timing is everything.  And I’m not sure whether it’s bad timing or not that we have fresh news of authorities raiding “the wrong house,” and the details aren’t pretty.  But why bad timing?  Because the United States Supreme Court is about to look at whether police can be held liable for doing just that, raiding the wrong house.  So we’ll have to see what kind of splash this latest travesty makes, and whether it has any impact on the Supremes legal reasoning, especially as they don’t seem to be all that happy with Trump the last two weeks.  And again, the ironic question: bad timing?

FEDS HAD A WARRANT FOR PREVIOUS TENANTS, BUT MADE SURE TO TRAUMATIZE WRONG FAMILY, IN WRONG HOUSE

But for a family in Oklahoma City, the timing was bad, worse, awful and traumatizing.  A mother and her three daughters were in the home when a storm of misplaced authorities changed their lives.  The family had only moved into town just two weeks prior, with the previous tenants junk mail still arriving.  But no less than 20 federal agents literally kicked the door in last Thursday, bearing a warrant for the previous tenants.  Let’s just say mistakes were made leading the agents there.  But they made more mistakes after they arrived.

AGENTS FORCED MOTHER AND 3 DAUGHTERS OUTSIDE TO STAND IN THE RAIN AS THEY RANSACKED THEIR HOME

What kind of mistakes?  How about forcing the mother and her 3 daughters to go outside in the rain?  And how about ransacking their home, seizing their phones, laptops and the family’s life savings?  The mother told media, “They were very dismissive, very rough, very careless.  I kept pleading. I kept telling them we weren’t criminals. They were treating us like criminals. We were here by ourselves. We didn’t do anything.”  So what happens now?  It’s not clear, as this story makes its way across the virtual landscape.  But ICE, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals are all playing pass the buck on who’s to blame for raiding the wrong house.  Again.

Meanwhile, authorities told the family they won’t get their seized belongings back for weeks or months.  We’ll just have to see what the Supremes do, soon.
