THE YEAR 2023 WILL INCLUDE AN EXORCIST REBOOT, ANOTHER SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME?
There are some horror movies that will always stand out permanently in people’s memories. Some of them stand out so much, people don’t want to see them ever again. They’re burned into our psyches and have a direct connection to our fight or flight reflexes. For me, the only one that totally applies is the original Exorcist movie. I saw it by accident at the age of 10, on a stormy night home alone. It was before remote controls were common, and when I realized just how scary it was, I was too scared to cross the room to change the channel. So, I watched the whole damn thing, rigid with fear. So I’m just thrilled to hear that there will be an Exorcist reboot!

If you haven’t seen the incomparable Exorcist movie, I’m hard pressed to recommend it. But it is good, and disturbing, and will stay with you no matter how much of a non-believer you think you are. And you just might want to see it before the new version comes out. Just to compare eras, you know? And the new film seems geared to hit a wider audience, which is appropriate. The production just announced the title star who will play the poor young woman who suffers demonic possession. It will be played by 16-year-old actress Lidya Jewett, a talented African-American young woman.

The new reboot of the Exorcist will hit the big screen this year! It has a scheduled release date of October 13, 2023. And not to worry. If you don’t want to scream in public and embarrass yourself, you can also stream it at home on Peacock. But despite my child trauma misgivings, I’m hoping this new version of the Exorcist is great as well. Yet I’m a little perplexed at all the horror movies that are on the way this year, competing for box office draw and novelty points. I don’t want the Exorcist reboot to be a novelty, not by any means. I want it to scare the next generation out of their tender years. For years….
