JOHN COUGHLIN COMMITS SUICIDE ONE DAY AFTER MYSTERIOUS SUSPENSION
Just days ago, the champion US figure skater John Coughlin committed suicide. But just the day before, the US Center for SafeSport had suspended him. The ice skating world is still reeling from the news. But no one seems to know what happened. Why did they suspend him? And how does that relate to his suicide? So Coughlin killed himself just as the 2019 US Figure Skatig Championships in Detroit began. Coughlin was a US national pairs champion in the years 2011 and 2012. He was originally from Kansas City, Missouri.

But everyone in the sport seems to be totally shocked at his death. So far they have announced nothing about Coughin’s suspension. All we know is that there was a pending grievance. So what is the US Center for SafeSport and what does it do? It’s the US Olympic Committee agency tasked with the oversight of sexual misconduct and other kinds of allegations of abuse that people report to national governing bodies. US figure skating’s only comment has been, “We are stunned at the news of the death of two-time US pairs champion John Coughlin. Our heartfelt and deepest sympathies are with his father Mike, sister Angela and the rest of his family. Out of respect to the family, we will have no further comment until a later time.”

But the mystery and now fervent interest will only grow as this news spreads. So what are the allegations? We have no idea. But who made the allegations? Same problem. But one thing that stands out is that there don’t seem to be any whispers. What do I mean by that? Well, no one is saying anything about “something they heard,” either now or in recent years. So that utter lack even a tawdry rumor will make people only want answers all the more.
