IT’S NOT ALRIGHT WHEN MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY IS SO TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY WRONG
As someone with deep, family Texas ties going back 5 generations, I can’t say that I’ve ever been too much of a fan of Matthew McConaughey. Not the actor, mind, but the man. His movies have had great success for the most part. And I can’t say I haven’t enjoyed a few of them and appreciated his work, either. He also says and does a fair amount of interesting things that make him seem appealing. Or maybe I should really say, beguiling. Because every so often, I feel let down and hoodwinked when I remember who and what he really is. Actually, that seems to be about every 4 years, right before we have a major election. And this has not only just happened again right as the mid-term has started, it’s now clearly written in stone. At least for me, anyway. Because this guy, in almost his own coined words, is really alright, alright and totally, absolutely all wrong.

THIS TEXAS GOOD OLE’ BOY JUST TARNISHED ANY REAL IDEA OF A FUTURE IN POLITICS
There’s a long tradition of smooth talking, slick, charismatic Texas good old boys. And Matthew McConaughey is living proof that it’s a recipe for success. But being a slick good old boy shouldn’t default to snake oil salesmanship. So I’m not sure if it’s Matthew himself who thinks this won’t tarnish his varnish, or if he’s just so removed from reality that someone even slicker talked him into hawking pure bile into the public discourse. And let’s be clear, telling people to vote for independent candidates the day before early voting starts in Texas is pure bile. How else can you describe McConaughey posting no less than a six minute video explaining it all, in only the smooth way that he can?

MCCONAUGHEY’S 6-MINUTE VIDEO IS AN INSULT TO ANYONE WHO HOLDS A REAL OPINION
I mean, COME ON. He titled the damn thing “Independence Counts.” And this brief caption offers the flavor of this snake oil, with him saying, “So they’ve been telling us for years that an independent vote is a wasted vote. Well, a great question for our times is: How’s that unwasted vote been working out for you?” Then he also says, “This is about the upcoming ballot, and I am not here today to endorse a candidate or a party. I am here endorsing two things: fairness and reality.” Well, Matthew McConaughey, I gotta say it’s fair that you presenting this “reality” as the election starts can be accurately described as either cowardice disguised as reason, or Republican support disguised as independence.
The whole six minutes stinks to high hell and still isn’t fit to use as fertilizer in anything other than a field for hallucinogens. McConaughey, who may someday run for Texas governor, loves doing this, every four damn years. And he hasn’t weighed in with ANY position on ANY topic except for calling to siphon votes away from Democrats. I guess it’s true, everything is bigger in Texas, especially a horse’s ass.
