BASKETBALL MALPRACTICE AT ITS WORST MEANS IT’S TIME FOR MAVERICKS TO FIRE NICO
This isn’t something I thought I’d be addressing this season. But especially not after only two games into the Dallas Mavericks 2025-2026 season. After all, every NBA season is extremely long, both in terms of games played and a drowning deluge of media coverage and commentary. I’m usually hesitant to add to the latter downpour. But whether you consider this to be clickbait coverage or now, I’m marching on. Because it’s clearly time for the Mavericks to fire their General Manager, Nico Harrison. The degree of his hubris at somehow still making things worse after literally winning a billion dollar lottery first pick in Cooper Flagg is stunning.

STARTING COOPER FLAGG AT POINT GUARD IS LIKE REINVENTING THE WHEEL FOR A BOAT
And here’s the thing- I’m not a Dallas mavericks fan. But I am a basketball fan. And I want to see good basketball, wherever and whenever possible. And watching an insanely talented and skilled NBA team flounder from organizational incompetence like this is basketball fan torture. Hence: fire Nico. How else could you describe making Cooper Flagg the starting point guard in the season’s very first game, and against the San Antonio Spurs no less? If you wanted to fillet the amazing rookie’s confidence and rhythm right out of the gate, good job. But don’t take my word for it, just watch the first quarter of that game. It’s the least painful to watch as a Mavericks fan, too.

If you do, you’ll see that there was no effective game plan to make it work. Cooper tried to initiate the offense but was never a part of it. The Mavericks literally made him a role player. Charles Barkley had a succinct soundbite after the game, essentially saying that they have a damn point guard sitting on the bench. And he’s totally right. Fire Nico. It’s time. The Mavericks seem committed right now to ruining their season, not making the playoffs, and wrecking Cooper Flagg’s rookie development. And last night, the Mavericks tried the same game plan against the Washington Wizards, and lost.
Fire Nico. Maybe Jason Kidd, too. Do it for the love of the game.
