Jen Karetnick
Jen Karetnick is the author/co-author/editor of 12 books, most recently the cookbook, Mango (University Press of Florida, October 2014) and the full-length poetry collection, Brie Season (White Violet Press, September 2014). She works as the Creative Writing Director for grades 6-12 at Miami Arts Charter School; the dining critic for MIAMI Magazine; a blogger for Virgin Atlantic Airlines; and a freelance lifestyle journalist. Her articles have appeared recently in TheAtlantic.com, Destination MO, Food Arts, TheLatinKitchen.com, The Local Palate, Miami Herald, Morning Calm: Korean Air, Southern Living, The Sun-Sentinel and USA Today. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in poetry from University of California, Irvine, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction from University of Miami. She has placed poems, fiction, playwriting, memoir and craft essays in journals and anthologies including Barrow Street, Black River Review, Carpe Articulum, Cimarron Review, december, Georgetown Review, The Greensboro Review, The Nebraska Review, North American Review, Poet’s Market 2013, River Styx, Seneca Review, SLAB, Sou’wester, Spoon River Poetry Review and Spillway. A native of New Jersey, Karetnick lives in Miami Shores on the last remaining acre of a historic plantation with her husband, a neurologist, and their two teenagers, three dogs, three cats and fourteen mango trees.
