Princess Bride Star Cary Elwes Recovering From Rattlesnake Bite

CARY ELWES LUCKY AND RECOVERING AFTER RATTLESNAKE BITES HIS FINGER OUTSIDE HOME

I hate snakes.  Yes, that’s a seminal line uttered by Indiana Jones from Raiders of the Lost Ark.  But it’s also me saying it.  And with good reason!  Snakes are scary, though not all of them are venomous and aggressive.  Usually, the two go hand in hand.  But they’re scary because some of them are venomous, as the Princess Bride Star Cary Elwes discovered the hard way.  He was doing the normal mundane things a lot of people do, working outside at his home in Malibu.  A rattlesnake bit him!  And it was scary enough that he had to get airlifted to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

ELWES IS JUST ONE OF NEARLY 8,000 TO BE BITTEN BY DANGEROUS SNAKES IN US THIS YEAR

The news broke when Elwes posted on Twitter, of course.  The post included a picture of his swollen (bitten) finger that was totally the wrong color.  Still showing his humor, he captioned it with “Bit not by a ROUS but a rattlesnake.”  And ROUS?  That stands for Rodents of Unusual Size.  If that’s not familiar, you really should see Princess Bride…  But Elwes is not alone.  Just in the United States, Elwes is only one of the 7,000-8,000 people that venomous snakes will bit this year.  Of those, roughly 5 of those result in death.  Fortunately, Elwes got treatment fast and is recovering.

IF BITTEN, STAY CALM LIKE CARY ELWES AND CALL 911 FOR IMMEDIATE HELP FOR FASTEST RECOVERY

You can find rattlesnakes in a lot of the U.S.  But other Yankee snakes that are dangerous include water moccasins and coral snakes.  I’ve personally seen more than my share of copperheads, though they aren’t as dangerous.  Most of these dangerous reptiles can swim in water and hind under debris.  Just leave them alone if you see one, especially if you don’t know what they are.  A non-venomous snake bite still hurts!  If you find one in your home, call animal control to deal with it.  If a snake bites you, stay calm like Cary Elwes!  That slows the venom spreading through your system.  But call 911 immediately!

And most of all, don’t let a friend suck your ass if you get bit there.  Especially if you just sit on a cactus.
