Zombie Alert in South Florida City After Power Outage

SOUTH FLORIDA TOWN GETS SCARED BY OFFICIAL ZOMBIE ALERT FOR POWER OUTAGE

It’s kind of crazy that the word zombie keeps hitting the news.  After a certain point, should we think that zombies are real?  Or are we the real zombies for reading all this news?  Hmmm.  Anyway, an alert went out about a power outage in the areas of Lake Worth and Terminus in South Florida.  The alert read, “Power outage and zombie alert for the residents of Lake Worth and Terminus.  There are now far less than 7,380 customers involved due to extreme zombie activity.”  So here we have it, a zombie alert in South Florida officially happened.  What would you do if you got this alert in the wee hours of the morning?  Well, hopefully you slept thru the alert and were just amused in the morning.  But obviously that wasn’t true for everyone.  Orson Welles keeps speaking to us, even in South Florida.

But the alert did wake up and frighten a number of residents.  At least some of them had to wonder if it was the first sign of the apocalypse.  The alert went out at 1:45 am two Sundays ago.  Somehow, it referred to the still-popular AMC series, The Walking Dead.  But the city didn’t send the alert out in that form.  Yes, they confirm they sent out a message about the power outage.  But they also say someone altered the message before it reached residents.  So how did this happen?  So far, no one is saying definitively.

ZOMBIE ALERT WAS SOME KIND OF HACK, OFFICIALS APOLOGIZE FOR UNDEAD MESSAGE

The communications specialist for Lake Worth, Ben Kerr, wrote about the zombie message on the town’s Facebook Page.  “We are looking into the reports that the system mentioned zombies. I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message.”  The power outage was evidently fixed in just 27 minutes.  The zombie apocalypse message may take longer.  Several commenters had some fun on the town’s Facebook Page, including, “I was in the cone of death, and didn’t even know it. I slept straight through the entire event!!”  “I feel so relieved and confident at the state of our electrical systems right in time for hurricane season…..said no one ever.”
