Lucasfilm Bringing Back Willow in New Series, With Warwick Davis

1988 CLASSIC WILLOW THE MOVIE FINALLY HAS A SEQUEL SERIES, STILL STARRING WARWICK DAVIS!

Willow is back!  You may not remember it.  It was a movie that came out in 1988.  I can’t even believe it’s been that long as I write it.  Ron Howard directed it, and the star was Warwick Davis.  Oh, and it had this guy named Val Kilmer in it, too.  The movie was based on a book written by George Lucas.  It was great fun at the time.  But honestly, the book was darker.  And then I realized there was a second book in the story.  That was good, too.  And I wondered how long it would take for the new movie to come out.  This was over 30 years ago!

LUCASFILM BRINGING WARWICK AND WILLOW BACK TO DISNEY PLUS, OVER 3 DECADES LATER

But, at last, Lucasfilm is bringing the diminutive hero played by Warwick back in a new series, coming out on Disney in November.  I can only imagine that Lucas felt this was unfinished business.  Back in the 80’s, there were several movies like it that just kind of fizzled at the box office.  But that was before the internet, never mind all the streaming services that we have now.  Sure, Willow and many of the other box office fizzles held strong nostalgia, even a cult following.  I could have said the same for Dune….

WITH WARWICK DAVIS AND RON HOWARD, WILLOW SERIES’ SUCCESS SEEMS TO BE A SURE BET ON DISNEY PLUS

But these days sci-fi and fantasy sell pretty well, to an audience of all ages.  And Disney+ just keeps surprising me with all the amazing content they keep releasing.  Ron Howard is back in the Director’s chair, which is great news.  Besides Warwick Davis, the show also stars Erin Kellyman, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers and Tony Revolori.  I recently saw the trailer, which looks pretty darn good.  Now, I may have to go back and read the second book again.  Hopefully, I’m not too old to enjoy it again before the series comes out in the fall.
