AT LAST! WALLACE & GROMIT MAKE A GRAND RETURN WITH CHICKEN RUN 2, OUT IN 2024
So this is the kind of news that takes me back to Michael Jordan coming back to the NBA after 9/11. You know, a simple joy after experiencing seismic trauma all around you? That’s what that felt like. Something fun you just knew you’d enjoy, somehow. So the news that Wallace & Gromit are making a return on Netflix in Chicken Run 2 just makes me happy. And yes, I am an adult, for several decades legally now. But the Claymation fun of Wallage & Gromit is ageless. Sure, maybe I have some ideas of how cool Claymation is. Well, ok, it’s really what you call Stop Motion.

OF ALL THE WALLACE & GROMIT SKITS, START WITH A CLOSE SHAVE AND BE AMAZED
But don’t just take my word for it. Go have a peek yourself. Maybe start with one of the shorts (yes, there are other features). The first I saw that blew me away was A Close Shave. I found a decent resolution of that you can find below. But if you really don’t know anything about Wallace & Gromit, they are the creation and brainchild of Nick Park, of Aardman Animations. They are incredibly English, as in the UK. Wallace the human is the talker, and has a huge fondness for Wensleydale cheese. Gromit, the dog, doesn’t ever really talk. But he’s the “straight man,” letting you know what’s silly or ridiculous by the expression on his face.

When I saw A Close Shave, I just couldn’t believe the amount of skill and talent that enabled them to do what they did. When you see it, you’ll understand what I mean. But the characters and writing are also just as amazing. The stories and characters are, well, safe and comfortable. They are regular (maybe) creatures who still have amazing adventures that are as fun as they are appalling and ridiculous. And seeing as how their last appearance was aaaaaalll the way back in 2005 in Curse of the Wererabbit, I’m just so happy they will be back in action in 2024.
You know this pandemic has gone on long enough when Wallace & Gromit returning makes you feel like things can be normal again. Somehow! In the meantime, check out A Close Shave below! And then get excited about Chicken Run 2.
