DONALD TRUMP WILL ATTEND GAME 3 OF THE NBA FINALS AT MSG, RUINING IT FOR KNICKS FANS
Even though I’m rooting for the San Antonio Spurs, I feel bad for the New York Knicks. Why? It’s certainly not because they won Game 1. The Knicks are actually really good this year, on paper and even more so on the court. They didn’t have the hardest path thru the East to get to the Finals, but in the Finals they are and they deserve to be there. Tonight, the Knicks face the Spurs, again, in San Antonio for Game 2, and the Spurs will likely be in a frenzy of adjustments to even the series at 1-1. But regardless of how Game 2 goes, the Knicks path home at MSG to Game 3 now includes an impossible obstacle: Donald Trump. For New Yorkers, Knicks fans, the Knicks and even the Spurs, this is a stink bomb of epic proportions.

And here’s the thing: even though I’m a longtime Spurs fan, I’m a New Yorker! Basketball Mecca hosting their home team in the NBA Finals is huuuuuge for the game, and even bigger for the Big Apple. So Donald Trump jumping on this massive, currently popular spectacle’s coattails is utterly horrid. Not only is it a distraction in general, it will be a distraction at the game to have the convicted POTUS attending. And to make it even more awkward, the incredibly popular Mayor Mamdani is also attending the game (well, at least until Dolan’s MSG Panopticon finds reason to bar him like Charles Oakley).

MAMDANI WILL GET CHEERED, TRUMP WILL BE BOOED, AND WILL PROBABLY FALL ASLEEP
So Mamdani will be cheered. Trump will inevitably be booed, and will almost certainly fall asleep at some point. You can pretty much depend on that now. Even worse, Trump may also go to Game 4, also at MSG. And even worse? Trump will be the first ever sitting president to ever attend an NBA Finals game. Obama attended one in 2019, but only after he was out of Office, because he didn’t want to disrupt the game for players and fans. But Trump will bring his rump to MSG, unfortunately. House Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries has already asked why Trump has to ruin it, saying, “The Knicks haven’t been in the NBA Finals for 27 years, the city is trying to celebrate this, we’ve embraced this team, and this guy has to inject himself.”
And while Trump is injecting himself into everyone else’s earned limelight and celebration, he was invited! By who? James Dolan, of course.
