So you may have heard. Well, maybe not. But Germany is making climate change, and how they produce clean energy, a top priority. So why? Because of the Coronavirus pandemic. But why? Because this pandemic is giving anyone with an ounce of common sense a lens to see how fragile we are. And by we, I mean our economies and our health. They are totally dependent on everything working well. Just one hiccup, never mind a pandemic, throws everything into chaos. And climate change is only going to reap larger catastrophes on humanity. Especially when it comes to disease. So what is the Trump Administration doing? Trying to mine for more Uranium near the Grand Canyon.

So if you think that’s a joke, it isn’t. But it should terrify everyone. Again, why? Because for one, nuclear energy is NOT the future. It is, however, an industry with the President’s ear. But another reason it should terrify everyone is that it shows just how out of touch this President, and the people around and behind him, are from any rational judgement. Crony capitalism and self-aggrandizement is all the Trump Administration knows how to pursue. Meanwhile, we’re about to open up states, DURING A PANDEMIC, without enough testing to make it even slightly functional.

So the Trump Administration just released their plan to “revive and strengthen the uranium mining industry.” Why? To boost nuclear power. But besides how dangerous it is to store all this spent fuel, we need to remember some other things. Like Fukushima, Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. And if you don’t know how those three relate, go fucking look it up. But we’ve already had conversations about this uranium mining, at these locations. So why did we stop it with a ban in 2012? Because we had already mined for uranium there. Leaching toxic chemicals into the air and water.
But even worse? We have other locations besides the Grand Canyon and other national treasures. But we also have a huge stockpile to use, first. Then, we have allies with plenty of their own to sell us. Without destroying land, wildlife and human health forever. But the Trump Administration only sees dollar signs in other people’s misery. If he even acknowledges the misery at all. So we need better leaders. Now.
