DISGUTSING, TOXIC FOOT-LONG WORMS ARE CONTINUING TO SPREAD IN THE U.S.
Worms. They’re good bait for some fish, good for the soil (usually), and popular with birds as a good protein source (especially early in the morning). But they’re also wriggly, kind of disgusting, and in general are a sensory disturbance. Which is why they’re featured by disturbing association in the new movie sequel, 28 Years Later. But even that horror movie failed to take advantage of the actual, real-life horror story that are the toxic, invasive foot-long worms that are continuing to spread across the US. And yes, that there above is indeed a picture of one of these beasties.

TOXIC MEANS NEUROTOXIC, FOR YOU AND ANY PETS YOU HAVE, SO DON’T TOUCH THEM AT ALL
And while I probably don’t need to dissuade you in any warning not to touch one if you have the chance: please be sure not to touch one. Because these toxic, invasive foot-long worms are just that; a foot long and toxic. Their actual name is hammerhead flatworms. And their skin secretes neurotoxins (yes, neurotoxins) that can at a minimum irritate your skin with any contact whatsoever. And if your dog or cat or crazy uncle were to eat one, the poison could prove to be pretty dangerous. But let’s not forget another detail we’ve already mentioned: they’re spreading in the US.

THESE AWFUL BEASTS ARE FLATWORMS, WHICH MEAND SQUISHING ONE WILL TURN INTO 3 OR MORE
Even scarier is, these toxic, invasive (from Asia) foot-long worms have been in the US since the late 1800’s. So they’re all across the continent, from the Pacific Northwest to New York. And while they’ve been in Texas for decades, they haven’t been seen in North Texas till this past week, when weeks of rains caused them to surface to locals’ horror. There’s a video of them wriggling here. And now for the extra bad worms. These disgusting horrors are flatworms, in case you missed it. That means you cut it in half, you get two worms. You squish one, multiple worms. And if you want to kill them, you have to either freeze them for 48 hours, or leave them in a salt and vinegar solution for a while.
And if you even touch them after they’re dead, you’ll still get nailed by the neurotoxins. These things are for real, and they’re enough to give you the tremors.
