I keep running into people who deleted their Facebook account. Well, they shut down their account and then they delete the app from all their devices. But the thing is, they all say that they feel free for getting Facebook out of their lives. When there’s no more Facebook, there’s no more endless and mindless scrolling down the Feed. Are those still really your friends? How about all your family’s friends? Do you really need to know all that they post? Does all that feed your soul? Maybe it’s time to kill your Facebook account, once and for all. Well, maybe just a while? Give yourself a FB rest, at least.

But actually, we don’t even need to shut down our Facebook account first. All you have to do is delete the app from your phone, pad, whatever. One data addict I spoke to was motivated to delete the app after she realized her crappy iPhone battery issue was all the worse because of…. Facebook. But everyone who leaves the Facebook hive seems to be pretty happy about it afterward.

Ex-boyfriends. Ex-girlfriends. Old colleagues. High school “friends.” So many people tend to keep all these folks in their virtual world on Facebook. Why do we do this to ourselves? People will talk about anything. They will be even more motivated to argue, about anything.

Facebook decided to try to be, well, everything. And it’s ended up being less than the sum of its parts, which is, pretty much, us. Facebook tells us what it thinks we want to know about our friends. It also is the most strategic marketer, ever. Buy this. Be friends with them. Be angry about this. But also be happy about this. So if you are a handheld FB addict, maybe try something different, like getting away from FB. Delete the app from your phone. You can keep your account. It will still be there. You’ll just have to use a browser on the computer to log in. But don’t worry! You will still have plenty of informational errata from TV, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. Oh yeah, radio too. But maybe listen to Love Radio, ok? Feed your soul. Look away from your phone, or at least your Facebook feed.
