By now, as we’re all coming down from our champagne and noisemakers headache from last night, we know that 2014 was one hell of a news year. The Internet was broken several times over, from Michael Brown and Eric Garner to Sony and the ever-present NSA to oodles of celebrity scandals and Kim Kardashian’s well-greased ass that we will never be able to un-see.
But what you, dear reader, might not know is that TheBlot Magazine had a “break the Internet” kind of year, too. We had several stories that not only covered all sorts of national conversations, but actually became part of the conversation, namely our reporter Matthew Keys’ breaking story about Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson lying about being forced to release the surveillance tape that showed Michael Brown’s involvement in a robbery minutes before being fatally shot by a police officer as well as Arisce Wanzer’s very controversial shout-out to Kendall Jenner following the reality star’s New York Fashion Week runway stint. Both Matthew and Arisce received national coverage for these stories, which helped push this relatively new site into the mainstream.
While our reporters are a cornerstone of our success over the past 12 months, TheBlot would not have had such a stellar year without you, our readers. So, from the bottom of my heart and the hearts of everyone on TheBlot staff, thank you. Thank you for reading us, thank you for sharing us and thank you for joining our conversations throughout 2014. We still have a lot to say, so just wait until you see what we have in store for you in 2015.
Without further ado, though, here are TheBlot’s Top 10 stories from 2014:
